Review #1: St George Single Malt Whiskey LOT 20

Back in 2000, there was no such thing as “American Single Malt Whiskey.” Our Lot Series is the single malt that earned master distiller Lance Winters his place in the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame. His pioneering approach—using five roast levels of malted barley pot distilled once to maximize the flavor from the grain—remains as revolutionary as it is delicious.

My Thoughts

I've always have a love for single malt whiskeys, and this whiskey from St George is no exception. You get the typical notes of a good single malt, almost as if you're sitting in Scotland. It starts off with a bunch of vanilla but then opens up to some even sweeter notes as the oxygen starts doing its magic.

It has a bit of a bite though, don't think you can just quickly get through a dram. But with that bite comes the delight of a complexity that's difficult to describe. From the nose to your tastebuds, you'll start to get some toffee and fruit. It's not particularly smoky but some hints of wet pine or cedar.

This is a bottle I would happily recommend and something I wouldn't mind always have a bottle of in my collection.
