Review #2: Port Charlotte ROCK'NDAAL 02.2

Review #2: Port Charlotte ROCK'NDAAL 02.2

Concluding the exclusive Fèis Ìle duo is Port Charlotte Rock'ndaal 02.2. This remarkable expression is matured in a combination of refilled wine casks and sherry butts, allowing the rich influences of the wood and the wine to shape its character. Furthermore, its 16-year all-Islay maturation period imparts a profound depth to the versatile Port Charlotte liquid.

Every year during the Rock'nDaal festival, Bruichladdich will have some special bottles for sale. All of these behind a ballot system due to demand and limited supply. Last year they had the Rock'nDaal Port Charlotte and Classic Laddie, I only opted for the Port Charlotte and was lucky enough to got the chance to purchase one.

Nose: On the nose you are immediately greeted with tons of wood, as you go in for some more you'll start to smell sweetness coming from within. Close to maple syrup or even brown sugar. Reminded me a bit of a cool damp morning in a forest with a smoldering fire place.

Palate: So much Smokey / peaty goodness. Sweet mixed in with smoke. Like a burning log covered in honey. Tons of floral as the notes get more subtle and dies down. Warm sticky toffee pudding near the end.

Overall I really enjoy this whiskey, I've been very slowly enjoying it since I got it a few months ago and I'm scared to finish it. But I can't help pouring myself a dram every now and then. If you can find it and don't mind the price tag, I'd suggest getting a bottle. The next festival is around the corner and I'm excited to see what they release.
