Review #7: Longrow Peated
Named after another lost distillery of Campbeltown (which once operated right next door to Springbank and whose warehouse now houses our bottling hall), Longrow was first produced in 1973 to provide a peaty, oily and robust component to a blend being created at the time. More heavily peated and double distilled, it has been a staple in the production calendar since the 1990s.
Longrow Peated offers those who enjoy a heavily peated whisky the chance to enjoy a lingering, smoky taste that travels through the senses like the smoke billows from a kiln.

Can you believe it, 7 reviews already? How exciting.
This is a bottle I grabbed with Springbank 10 Year, and was pretty darn excited to give it a try. We are both huge fans of peated whiskys and Lagavulin is one of my wife's favorites whiskys. So she too was pretty excited to give it a try.
The Longrow is a non age statement whisky, it is a blended whisky where they try to maintain a consistent flavor profile year to year.
Nose: As you would expect from a peated whiskey, you start to get a lot of smokey goodness coming through, accompanied with some sweeter caramel and vanilla notes. The peat isn't overwhelming and is very well balanced on the nose.
Palate: The peat continues to come through in the mouth, but it doesn't hit you in the face like other peated whiskeys. The sweeter caramel, vanilla and biscuity flavors come through the smoke and really continues to linger long after.
The initial tasting was a few nights ago and that's where I took majority of the notes down, and as I write this review I decided to pour myself another dram. It's a whiskey that I would love to always be in my collection and one I can continue to enjoy over the next few years. It's balance and complexity is a welcome addition and a bottle I very highly recommend.
